Modreck Gomo is an Associate Professor in groundwater working at the Institute of Groundwater Studies, the University of the Free State in South Africa. Modreck has experience in a wide range of groundwater science and consultancy projects. He has consistently published theoretical and experimental work on a variety of groundwater topics, with the main purpose of improving groundwater site characterization techniques, including aquifer pumping tests, and assessing hydrogeochemical processes and their influence on groundwater quality. Modreck Gomo is serving as Subject Editor for the Water SA journal, Associate Editor for Sustainable Water Resources Management, and Editorial Board Member for Discover Water journals. Recently, Modreck Gomo was appointed to serve on the SADC - Groundwater Management Institute Procurement Review Committee.

The book covers a wide range of aquifer characterisation techniques, demonstrating their application and highlighting emerging issues. The aquifer characterisation techniques include:
• Geophysical groundwater exploration
• Groundwater potential mapping
• Borehole geophysical logging mapping
• Analysis of aquifer pumping test data in an alluvial aquifer
• Isotope in groundwater recharge investigation
• Neural network applications for groundwater quality prediction
• Role of groundwater modelling in groundwater management
