Yuanzhi Zhang

Dr. Yuanzhi Zhang is a Distinguished Research Fellow and Professor specializing in Earth System Science and Coastal Remote Sensing at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology in China. He earned his Doctor of Science in Technology from the Helsinki University of Technology (now Aalto University) in Finland. Dr. Zhang is the author or co-author of 230 peer-reviewed journal articles and 18 books or book chapters. His contributions have been recognized with several awards, including the Second-Rank Award and the ARCA (Actions for Raising Critical Awareness) Prize at the International Symposium 'Environment 2010: Situation and Perspectives for the European Union” in Porto, Portugal (2003); the First-Rank Award of the Guangdong Provincial Prize of Science and Technology, China (2013); and the First-Rank Award of the Jilin Provincial Prize of Science and Technology, China (2022). From 2012 to 2021, he served as Associate Editor for the International Journal of Applied Earth Observation and Geoinformation.

In recent years, sea level rise (SLR) and ocean health, in the context of climate change impacts on coastal systems and cities, have drawn increasing global, regional, and local attention, enabling monitoring, modelling, and prediction of these issues. The impacts of sea level rise and ocean health on coastal flooding, coastal tourism cities, coastal vulnerability, coastal ecosystems, and natural and anthropogenic factors that contribute to climate alteration are specifically addressed.
